Andrew Sheppard MSc Exercise and Nutrition, Chronic Disease Prevention Specialist

Andrew Sheppard is a Corporate Wellness Specialist with a Master’s in Exercise and Nutrition from Chester University in England. Andrew has since spent the last 12 years working in the Health and Disease Prevention field. His area of specialty is weight loss and chronic condition prevention and management. Andrew works as a Lead Nutritionist and Health Coach treating patients suffering from Diabetes, Hypercholesterolemia and Hypertension and is one of the country’s leading experts in the prevention and management of chronic conditions through lifestyle interventions.Andrew_Sheppard head shot - B&W

Andrew originally qualified as A Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2001 and set up his own personal training company. In 2002 Andrew qualified as a NTC Pilates Instructor and went on to work as a Nutritionist and Core Conditioning Specialist for high profile G.A.A players and kickboxers.

Andrew is also a qualified Social Worker. In the course of his work with young people in care Andrew approached the H.S.E and highlighted the need to address the health and nutrition of Young People in the care of the state.

Andrew, along with Kelly Berry developed and ran the “Fit for Life” intervention for young people in care with the H.S.E. Andrew and Kelly travelled the country teaching young people about proper nutrition and implementing exercise therapy interventions. Together they organised charity events and days out for children with low activity levels and poor social skills in an attempt to encourage activity and social inclusion.

The intervention was short listed for the Biomnis National Award for Innovation in Health Care in 2011.

Andrew has published a number of studies on developing mental and physical wellness for looked after young people through fitness and nutritional guidance programmes which were featured in the Scottish Journal of Adolescence and has also published studies in the British Medical Journal.

Andrew fronted up the Redicare daily monitoring Intervention for weight loss and chronic condition management and pioneered the first published study in Ireland on the effectiveness of remotely monitoring patient’s health.

Andrew also fights competitively in Muay Thai Kickboxing and is a keen fitness fanatic.
